Natasan Suspension 5ml (Natamycin 5%) is an antifungal medication primarily used to treat fungal infections of the eyes, such as fungal blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis (corneal inflammation). It works by destroying the outer cell membrane of the fungus, halting its growth and clearing the infection.
Common Side Effects
Most side effects are mild, localized, and usually disappear as your eye adjusts to the medication:
- Mild eye irritation, stinging, or a burning sensation upon application
- Redness in the eyes or watery, tearing eyes
- Blurred vision (temporary)
- Sensitivity to light
Serious Side Effects & Warnings
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience:
- Severe, new, or worsening eye pain
- Eyelash changes, eyelid swelling, or discoloration of the eye/iris
- Signs of a severe allergic reaction (such as rash, hives, severe dizziness, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat)
Usage and Precautions
- Application: Typically, drops are applied into the affected eye(s) as a pouch is formed with the lower eyelid.
- Contact Lenses: Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment unless explicitly permitted by your healthcare provider.
- Guidance: Always use this medication exactly for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Stopping the treatment early can cause the infection to retur.
