Racedo Sachets 10mg (1 Box = 16 Sachets) Specification Requires Prescription (YES/NO) Yes Generics Racecadotril Used For Diarrhoea How it works Racecadotril is known as a prodrug. Once inside your body it is broken down into an active ingredient called thiorphan. Thiorphan reduces the amount of watery secretions that are produced by your intestines. This helps to reduce the amount of fluid that your body loses. In turn, this reduces the symptoms of diarrhoea and helps reduce the risk of dehydration. Usage And Safety Dosage Children : Under months : Not recommended. Over months and 27kg : 2 sachets of 30mg three times daily . Granules can be added to food or dispersed in water. Continue until two normal stools. Max : 7 days. OR As directed by your physician. Side Effects • Swollen face, tongue or pharynx • Difficulty to swallow • Hives and difficulties to breath . Drug Interactions Please tell your doctor if your child is using, has recently used or might use any other medicines. Indication It is used for the treatment of diarrhoea. When not to Use If your child is allergic to racecadotril or any of the other ingredients . If you have been told by your doctor that your child has intolerance to some sugars, ask your doctor before you give racecadotril to your child. Precautions Precaution In the event of serious or prolonged diarrhoea with important vomiting or a lack of appetite, intravenous rehydration should be considered. Warnings Warning 1 The requirement for rehydration and route should be adapted to the age and weight of the patient and the stage and severity of the condition, specifically in case of serious or prolonged diarrhoea with significant vomiting or a lack of appetite. Warning 2 The presence of bloody or purulent stools and fever may indicate the presence of invasive bacteria as a reason for diarrhoea, or the presence of other severe disease. Also, racecadotril has not been tested in antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Therefore, racecadotril should not be administered under these conditions. Warning 3 Because of possible reduced bioavailability, the product must not be administered in cases of prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting.
