Dexamethasone is a potent glucocorticoid with very little, if any, mineralocorticoid activity. Dexamethasone's effect on the body occurs in a variety of ways. It works by suppressing the migration of neutrophils and decreasing lymphocyte colony proliferation. Clotrimazole exerts its action primarily by damaging the permeability barrier in the fungal cytoplasmic membrane. Clotrimazole thereby inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol in a concentration-dependent manner by inhibiting the demethylation of 14 alpha lanosterol.
