What Is Clobevate Cream Used For?

Clobevate Cream contains clobetasol propionate, a highly potent topical corticosteroid. It is used to relieve inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching associated with severe skin conditions that do not respond to milder steroid treatments.

Indications include:

Frequently relapsing eczema

Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)

Lichen planus

Discoid lupus erythematosus

Severe dermatitis and other steroid-responsive skin disorders

How Clobevate Cream Works

Clobetasol propionate works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in skin cells. This activates gene expression that increases anti-inflammatory proteins while suppressing inflammatory mediators, resulting in rapid relief from redness, itching, and swelling.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: Apply a thin layer once or twice daily for up to 4 weeks, then reassess treatment.

Children: Same dosage as adults, but treatment should be reviewed weekly.

Always use exactly as directed by your physician.

Apply sparingly and avoid prolonged use.

When Not to Use Clobevate Cream

Do not use this cream if:

You are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any ingredient in the formulation

The patient is under 1 year of age

You have acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or non-inflamed itchy skin

The skin condition is infected (unless treated simultaneously with an anti-infective)

You have itching around the anus or genitals

You have widespread plaque psoriasis (except isolated lesions)

Precautions

Use with caution on thin skin areas, especially the face

Facial use should be limited to no more than 5 days

Do not use airtight dressings or bandages on treated areas, particularly on the face

Avoid use under diapers unless advised by a healthcare professional

Consult your doctor if you experience new or worsening bone pain

Inform your doctor if you are using other topical or oral corticosteroids

Using clobetasol under airtight dressings can increase absorption and risk of overdose
