Uses / Indications
Dermovate Ointment is indicated for reducing redness, swelling, itching, and inflammation associated with chronic and severe skin disorders, including:
Frequently relapsing eczema
Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
Lichen planus
Discoid lupus erythematosus
Severe dermatitis
Other inflammatory skin conditions unresponsive to mild or moderate steroid creams
How Dermovate Ointment Works
Clobetasol propionate works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in skin cells, triggering gene expression that promotes the production of anti-inflammatory proteins. At the same time, it suppresses inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and cytokines, resulting in rapid relief from itching, redness, and swelling.
Dosage & Administration
Adults:
Apply a thin layer once or twice daily
Maximum treatment duration: up to 4 weeks, then reassess
Children:
Same dosage as adults
Weekly medical review is required

Drug Interactions
Use with caution if taking:
Ritonavir
Itraconazole
These medicines may increase the risk of systemic corticosteroid effects.
When Not to Use Dermovate Ointment
Do not use Dermovate if:
You are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any ingredient
The patient is under 1 year of age
For the treatment of:
Acne
Rosacea
Perioral dermatitis
Genital or anal itching
Infected skin (unless combined with appropriate anti-infective treatment)
Non-inflamed itchy skin
Widespread plaque psoriasis (except isolated lesions)
Precautions
Use extreme caution on thin skin areas, especially the face
Facial use should be limited to no more than 5 days
Do not use occlusive dressings or bandages on the face
Avoid long-term continuous use
Warnings
Consult your doctor if you experience new or worsening bone pain, especially after prolonged use
Inform your healthcare provider if you are using other corticosteroids or immunosuppressive medications
Avoid use under airtight dressings or diapers, as this increases absorption and overdose risk
