Oratane 20mg (Isotretinoin) – Oral Treatment for Severe Acne
Oratane Softgel Capsules 20mg contain Isotretinoin, a potent oral retinoid derived from Vitamin A. It is prescribed for the treatment of severe acne vulgaris, including nodular acne, cystic acne, conglobate acne, and acne at risk of permanent scarring, particularly in adults and adolescents who have not responded to conventional acne therapies such as topical treatments or oral antibiotics.
This systemic acne medication is considered one of the most effective treatments for persistent, treatment-resistant acne.
How Oratane (Isotretinoin) Works
Isotretinoin is a stereoisomer of all-trans retinoic acid (tretinoin). Although its exact mechanism is not fully understood, clinical studies show that it works by:
Suppressing sebaceous gland activity
Reducing the size of sebaceous (oil) glands
Decreasing excess sebum production
Preventing clogged pores
Reducing inflammation in the skin
By targeting the root causes of acne — excess oil, inflammation, and abnormal skin cell turnover — isotretinoin significantly improves severe acne and reduces the risk of acne scarring.
Indications
Oratane 20mg is indicated for:
Severe nodular acne
Cystic acne
Conglobate acne
Acne resistant to antibiotics or topical therapy
Acne with high risk of permanent scarring
